About The Firm

We craft unique designs for every client, pulling inspiration from local climate, culture, and community.

The principals of studio 2G, Heidi Gibson & Laura Gough, began their partnership at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where they both earned their Bachelor of Architecture Degree in 1994. They then cultivated their knowledge of the field working regionally, until they ultimately brought studio2G into fruition in 2005. Both are licensed architects in the state of California. studio 2G Architects is a Certified Women Business Enterprise, as well as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, being the small business that it is. Passionate advocates for sustainable environments, they both carry their LEED Accredited Professional BD+C and are a part of the Architecture 2030 Commitment. This is a promise to design all new buildings as net-zero energy by 2030.

Studio 2G has a positive reputation with all of their clients and consultants for being responsive, diligent, having attention to detail, and producing the highest quality of work. Committed to providing a quality product, studio 2G curates a harmonious balance between a design aesthetic, the client's needs, the workings of the built world, and an appreciation of the natural environment. We value our natural resources to the utmost and make every effort to spread awareness about green design, green building materials, and an overall green lifestyle, constantly striving to envelop what it means to be a sustainable and energy-conscious practice.

Why Hire An Architect?

A construction project requires substantial time, energy, and money. Hiring an architect is a critical first step to maximizing your return on investment.

1. Legacy

Architects are licensed professionals, experienced in the numerous complexities of design and construction, offering services from project inception to construction completion and beyond.

2. Vision

Throughout the design process, an architect brings visions to life, integrating elements that are important to individual clients. Whatever your requirements, architects create positive experiences for both owners and users.

3. Value

From beginning to end, your design team is dedicated to your project’s success. Under the guidance of an architect, this means a smoother, more stress-free building experience. They are trained to explore innovative, cost effective, and energy-saving solutions.

We hired studio 2G Architects to create a remodel of our home. This was a complete remodel . . . not a room was left untouched in our large house and converted barn. They listened to everything we said and then came up with the most creative ideas and solutions. During our 18-month construction project and the proceeding planning phase they worked closely with our General Contractor and Landscape Architect. Communication was seamless, prompt and thorough. Plus, they were all super pleasant to work with. We couldn’t be happier with the work that studio 2G Architects did for us!
— Pam Nichter
Working with Laura and the studio 2G staff was a wonderful experience. Laura was very receptive to our input and in every instance, she had better suggestions than we could have ever imagined. Studio 2G and our builder collaborated well and as a homeowner, you cannot ask for more. The end result is a beautifully designed home that we will enjoy for years to come.
— John & Dawn Turner
Laura Gough has worked on 3 projects for us in the last 15 years. House, guest house and barn remodel on our horse ranch, and “moved to town “ house. Wonderful and creative design, rooms flow from one to another, creative use of space, resulting in comfortable yet elegant homes. Her firm was also involved in creating our local Mosque and remodeling part of the interior space in the 1772 Spanish Mission in San Luis Obispo. My contractors loved her too. Can’t say enough about her competency and my delight in working with her.
— Roy & Linda Rawlings
We hired studio 2G Architects for our extensive home remodel and large addition. Heidi came highly recommended and after interviewing a couple others we settled on studio 2G. She is very professional and understood our concept right away and came up with a design that was exactly what we wanted. Heidi was great in incorporating our ideas into her design as well. The team was professional and responsive whenever things came up and worked well with my General Contractor to get things done on a timely basis. Our project was complex and Heidi and her team were able to sort out all the details and special circumstances we encountered.
— Toni & Jerry Ulrich
Really enjoyed working with Heidi and the rest of the team. I have zero regrets on any dollar spent with studio 2G Architects. We received great input and absolutely love our home. Heidi takes the design personally - she took our ideas and what we were interested in and then added from her extensive knowledge base and just great vision for what she could see we wanted. Did I say we love our house? We’ve been in 9 months and I think we say that about every time we walk in the front door.
— David & Lauren Bowin

Very professional and competent architects. Good working relationships with local planning departments which helps with the permit process. They completed over a dozen projects for us with a combined value of over $10mm. Several of our projects are profiled on their website. A site visit to one or more of these completed projects would give you an idea of what they are capable of doing. Would always approach them first when embarking on other real estate developments.
— Chris Will
I have worked with Heidi and Laura for over 10 years now. As a surveyor, I have found their plans to be clear, easy to read and easy to build from. I would highly recommend them for any residential or commercial project.
— Michael Stanton
Studio 2G Architects are wonderful to work with and they are great team players. They are open to ideas and sharing as a team and practice excellent communication across disciplines. We highly recommend them as talented architects and great collaborators.
— Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture
As green building consultants, we really enjoy working with studio 2G Architects. Their designs beautifully integrate strategies for energy efficiency, comfortable interiors, spacious daylighting and conservation of natural resources. At the same time, they are responsive to their clients’ needs and highly professional in their project management.
— In Balance Green Consulting
I have had the pleasure of working with studio 2G Architects on design teams since 2005. Their outstanding designs have been recognized by the community, as well as their peers, and represent fresh and innovative expressions of their client’s dreams. They are a creative, collaborative and cohesive member of any project team. Studio 2G Architects has my highest recommendation.
— Charles Ashley
